BOOK REPORT:
Through Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliot is the true, inspiring, and tragic story of five young American missionaries—Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Pete Fleming, and Roger Youderian—who were speared to death by the isolated Huaorani (Auca) tribe in Ecuador's jungle in 1956 while attempting to make peaceful contact with them. Told through the perspective of Jim Elliot's widow, Elisabeth, the book chronicles their fervent faith, detailed preparations, courageous efforts to reach the unreached tribe, and the aftermath, highlighting their ultimate sacrifice and God's surprising use of their deaths to bring the Gospel to the Huaorani through the subsequent work of the widows. BOOK REPORT:
Gladys Aylward, featured in "Christian Heroes: Then & Now" books, was an English housemaid who felt God called her to China, becoming a missionary despite lacking formal training and being turned down by missionary boards. She famously saved money for her own ticket, journeyed to China, and, with incredible faith and courage, worked with an elderly missionary, became an honorary "foot inspector" to preach the Gospel, reformed prisons, and, during wartime, led over 100 orphans on a perilous journey to safety, embodying radical trust in God.
